Spring Cleaning Ideas For Your Home

Now that it’s officially spring, it’s a good time to think about cleaning some parts of your home you might have been neglecting. We’re not talking just surfaces—we’re talking the details. At Treasure Coast Window Fashions here in Stuart, Florida, we’ve got a few ideas for how to tackle some of those projects you might have been avoiding (or might not have even considered!). Read on for more.

Get to Organizing

Are your closets, pantry, garage, basement, and storage areas in need of some attention? Spring is a good chance to give fresh life to those old spaces by sorting through the piles and determining what you really don’t need. On top of that, if you’re like a lot of folk, you probably have a ton of photos, whether printed or digitally on your phone or computer. Now is good time to sort through them and get them organized and labeled. Consider using a service that can create beautiful photo albums for you to treasure in the years to come.

General Maintenance

Many fire departments recommend that you change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when the time changes each spring and fall. If you haven’t actually done it (especially if it’s been a while), now’s a good time to take care of that task—that way, you won’t be woken at 3 in the morning to that awful blaring beep that tells you your battery is dead. Now is also a good time to clean out the gutters and be sure that they’re flowing well. Spend some time with your dryer vent and clear it of dust and lint.

Manage Your Appliances

Now’s a good time to give your oven, computers, and TVs some love. When was the last time you really cleaned your remotes and computer keyboard? And don’t forget the fridge—be sure to clean the bottom, where everything drips, and don’t forget to pull it from the wall and clean up any dust bunnies there and underneath the unit.

Address Your Windows

Have you noticed that your view might be impacted by weather and grime? Now’s a great time to wash the inside and outside of your windows to get the glass clean. And be sure to clean the screens while you’re at it. You can take care of it in your tub or utility sink (or even your kitchen sink) with a rag and some mild soapy water. Repair any breaks or replace screens that are beyond repair. And be sure to do some maintenance on your window treatments. You can dust blinds and shades, and vacuum treatments like Silhouette® using the brush attachment. Use compressed air to clean out cellular shades such as Duette® Honeycomb Shades. If your aluminum or faux wood blinds (such as Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds or Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds) are particularly grimy, you can remove them and clean them with lukewarm water in a bathtub or sink. Reinstall the treatment while it’s still damp, and lower it to let it completely dry. And be sure to speak with one of our consultants if a treatment is beyond repair. We’ll be happy to help you find the product that will suit your needs.
